Purpose: Information architecture is a necessary principle in the design and development of digital libraries. The main objective of this research is to assess effects of Information Architecture on Iranian National Digital Library of Medical on users' learning performance with regard to the components of the digital library.
Methodology: In this research method is semi-experimental and using pre-test and post-test as well as the use of questionnaires for investigate learning styles the population under study in this study, sampling is random and the 25 students of Kermanshah university of medical Sciences were invited to conduct this research.To study how learning performance and information usage behaviors are affected by information architectures in digital libraries, Morae Recorder (TechSmith, Version 2.2) software was used to analyze the behaviors of learners during learning activities supported by digital libraries. The information architecture of digital libraries contains organization systems, navigation systems, search systems. An organization system includes an organization scheme and organization structure.
Findings:An organization scheme defines the shared characteristics of content items and affects the logical grouping of content items whereas an organization structure defines the types of relationships between content items and groups. This work also applied the Felder & Silverman Index of Learning Styles (ILS) to categorize the learning styles of learners into active/reflective, sensitive/intuitive, visual/verbal, and sequential/global in order to investigate the differences between the information usage behaviors towards the information architecture of digital libraries and the learning performance of learners with distinct learning styles. The learning sheets of pretest and post test contain the same questions with 10 multiple-choice Questions and 2 short answer questions.
Result: The evaluation outcomes of the learning sheet of pretest and post test were regarded as the evaluation bases of prior knowledge and learning performance, respectively.Importantly, the learning performance of learners is strongly correlated with the use of organization systems as well as the correlation coefficient reached as high. The results show that in the study population who use Information Architecture of Iranian National Digital Library Medical there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test.
